The average snowfall for this area is about 73 inches per winter. We've already had nearly 80 inches, and have just hit the official mid-point of winter (as the meteorologists measure it, anyway). We've also had some ridiculously cold temperatures in the last week; one day on my way to work in the morning, my car dashboard registered -17 degrees outside. My car tends to be pretty reliable and only measures air temperature, meaning the wind chill was far colder.
But, as I have learned, one result of really cold temps that fluctuate from cold to colder and back again is really pretty hoarfrost (the breathtaking, thick white frost that forms on trees and bushes and everything around). Here are some pictures from earlier this week - though the pictures don't do the beauty justice.
